mercury retrograde inner reflection ritual

Mercury Retrograde is upon us again! But honestly, how lucky are we to be able to end 2022 and start 2023 slowing down and taking a look inward. 

In these next few weeks, we get a little bit more time to bring about some extra healing to ourselves and put our focus on the relationship we have with ourselves. 

This ritual encourages us to check in with our thoughts, feelings and emotions, and allow them to come to the surface instead of the weeks and months we may have spent pushing them away. We'll take a look inward to see that happiness and fulfillment don't exist outside of ourselves but within. Happiness and fulfillment are happenstance, we gain them both by choice. Going within allows us the time we need to transform and gives us a safe space to shift any habits or though patterns we've harbored inside. 

what you'll need:

  • a timer
  • sage or palo santo
  • 1 black tourmaline, for cleansing, protection and absorb negative energy

ritual instructions:

  1. Sage your environment, and cleanse your crystals (BLOG: Energy Toolkit).
  2. Hold the black tourmaline in your hands, close your eyes, and take 3 deep breaths. Aloud or in your head, say the following: "I ask that the highest vibration of love and light connect with highest self to clear all unwanted energy and any previous programming. I command this crystal to hold the intention of reflection, transformation, and acceptance. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
  3. Set the timer for 11 minutes.
  4. Hold the black tourmaline, close your eyes and take 7 long, deep breaths in and out. Without judging, what do you see? Observe your thoughts as they come up, but try to simply be a witness to these thoughts without judging them. See if you can go deeper into your 3rd eye and see the self behind the self. As images or thoughts come up, observe them as if they're pictures on a screen that just pass by. Continue to breathe deeply. As you allow images, thoughts, and feelings to surface, keep looking into the Obsidian mirror. Breathe deeply with the intention of inhaling transformation and healing into every cell of your being.
  5. Once you've had time to sit with your thoughts, send love to your inner reflection. Then send forgiveness and, finally, send thanks. Every time your mind wanders, try to refocus, look inward, and love yourself even more. Focus on the truth of your past and the love of the self that exists right now.
  6. After your 11 minutes are complete, place your crystal on your bedside table to hold the space of reflection, transformation, and acceptance as you continue to work through this process.


Every day for 21 days, repeat steps 2 through 6. Look in the black tourmaline, love yourself, and give thanks for all the lessons in your life. They have made you the person you are today.
